CAMINAR BENEFIT SHOW
Caminar for Mental Health recently held its Sixth Annual “In Concert with Caminar” event at the recently constructed SFJAZZ Center in the heart of San Francisco on the evening of Saturday, October 15. This yearly affair helps raise community awareness around mental health issues, highlighting Caminar’s client success stories and funding critical mental health programs.
GRAMMY Award winning and nominated jazz saxophonists kept the crowd dancing throughout the night. Mindi Abair performed with The Boneshakers and Sweet Pea Atkinson, and the very talented David Sanborn was the main feature of the night.
The highlight of the evening was the outpouring of personal stories and experiences of mental health issues among Caminar clients, performers, and guests, and how Caminar’s services are crucial for recovery.
Caminar auctioned off unique experiences such as a Monterey Colony Dunes Vacation, NASCAR Racing Series VIP tickets, a Bay Area Sports Fan Package, tickets to attend the American Music Awards, a framed photo of Michael Phelps and dinner with world renowned portrait photographer Michael Collopy, A Day at the 2017 Masters and Vacation Package at the legendary Mauna Kea Beach Resort in Hawai’i.
Caminar CEO Chip Huggins announced that this event grossed nearly $430,000. Proceeds will support all mental health programs including the Crisis Housing Fund to help prevent clients at risk of homelessness. He also announced that Caminar will merge with Family and Children Services of Silicon Valley in early 2017, which will expand Caminar’s support system to children, teens, families and the LGBTQ community.
Serving the greater San Francisco Bay Area since 1964, Caminar’s mission is to improve quality of life for people with disabilities by providing opportunities to live in a community with dignity and independence. For more details call 650-372-4080.
