Board Chair Letter

Dear Supporters of Caminar,

Betsy Pace, Caminar Board Chair, 2019-2021

As Caminar’s board chair during the last fiscal year, I am honored to share our fiscal year 2021 Impact Report with you.

Last year, when the pandemic made so much seem hopeless and we realized its disproportionate effect on the behavioral health of BIPOC communities, essential workers, adolescents, and people who are insecurely housed, you delivered hope. Caminar’s Behavioral Health Equity Fund was created to continue our response to the urgent behavioral health needs of the Bay Area’s underserved populations, particularly those in the hardest-hit communities. Your response was tremendous, and we are deeply grateful. Thank you.

Supporting the behavioral health of a deeply underserved community takes an extraordinary sense of passion and compassion for staff, donors, and volunteers. It connects us to our mission and bonds us to each other. That, more than anything else, has made the role of board chair stimulating, challenging, and so rewarding for me. It really does take a village. Thank you for being part of our village.

Barbara Patterson, Caminar Board Chair

My term as chair ended at the start of this calendar year. As I reflect on my two years in the role, I'm so grateful that we made the inspired choice to hire Mark as our CEO, and he accepted our offer to lead Caminar with deep intelligence, intention, skill, and grace. I have treasured the opportunity to work alongside him. As Mark has grown Caminar's vision, strategic plan, and senior leadership team, we have grown as a board to keep pace with the organization and be the best leaders we can be. We owe that and nothing less to our incredible and dedicated staff and our deserving clients. It has been a joy and a privilege to serve as board chair.

While my work with Caminar will continue in a different capacity, I am delighted to introduce you to our new board chair, Barbara Patterson. Barbara and I have known each other and worked together for many years. With her healthcare background and strong leadership skills, she is the perfect board chair for Caminar’s next chapter. I couldn’t be happier for Caminar to have Barbara at the helm.

With deep gratitude for your support,

Betsy Pace
