Dear Friends,

How are you? The past two years have been tough, haven’t they? Not one person has escaped some degree of suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic. As I write this, we appear to be emerging firmly out of the surge and into a time where COVID-19 is more manageable.

My gratitude to you, our donors and funders, for your continued support that ensured Caminar's response to the urgent behavioral health needs of the Bay Area’s underserved populations during the recent surges. Thank you. I am pleased to share with you our fiscal year 2021 Impact Report.

Behavioral health care plays a crucial role in reducing homelessness, incarceration, and hospitalizations. It also bolsters people’s ability to engage with family, school, work, and primary care –- and creates lasting economic and health benefits for individuals, families, and the community. Last year, the need for behavioral health care increased as the pandemic wreaked havoc on our lives. Because of you, we continued to positively impact the lives of our clients, their families, and the community. We were also able to absorb the financial implications of the pandemic.

Our work of being a mission-driven behavioral health organization –- last year, this year, and beyond –- remains focused on the anchors of our strategic plan:

Serving those with moderate and severe behavioral health issues, focusing on the co-occurring disorders of mental health and substance use

Addressing the social determinants of health; housing, food, income security, and racism

Emphasizing both individual- and community-level outcomes to reduce hospitalizations, incarcerations, and housing instability while focusing on individual well-being and functioning

Improving clinical precision and applying research with compassion in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex behavioral health conditions

I continue to be indebted to our supporters, staff, community, board of directors, and board chair for the ongoing support of our organization and all the individuals we serve. Thank you.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about this report or the services we provide. Thank you for your generosity and compassion for the behavioral health of our most at-risk neighbors. We cannot do what we do without you.

In appreciation,

Mark Cloutier, MPP, MPH
