Mental Health and Community

We are deeply grateful for your continued support of Caminar, our community, and our clients. Together, we’re making a real difference. Thank you!

On October 10th, we recognized World Mental Health Day, highlighting the importance of mental well-being for everyone in our community. At Caminar, we believe that access to support, treatment, and connection can change lives. Let’s continue to break the stigma, uplift one another, and ensure that no one walks their journey alone!

On October 11th, National Coming Out Day, we celebrated living openly and authentically, and that everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported—no matter where they are on their journey. Our LGBTQ Programs hosted a special event to celebrate, read more about it below.

Remembering Eunice Kushman: A Legacy of Compassion and Leadership

At Caminar, we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Eunice Kushman (1922 – 2025), a beloved member of our community whose impact will be felt for generations to come. Eunice was more than a board member and a donor, she was a guiding light, a passionate advocate, and a cherished member of our community.

For over thirty years, Eunice served on Caminar’s board of directors, helping to shape the heart and direction of our organization. Her leadership and compassion were instrumental in advancing mental health services throughout San Mateo County. To read more of Eunice's impact on Caminar and our community, please visit here.

Caminar's LGBTQ Programs Celebrated National Coming Out Day

Last weekend, our LGBTQ Programs hosted their "I'm Coming Out!" Drag Benefit Show and Resource Fair. The family-friendly afternoon event highlighted our community during an uncertain time. Caminar's LGBTQ programs are designed to uplift and help LGBTQIA+ individuals thrive. The team's work was recognized by a special commendation from the office of Supervisor Abe Koga.

We had a fabulous time filled with excitement, joy, and community. Your support allows us to continue the essential work we do. You can support Caminar's LGBTQ Programs here.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a Trend Worth Considering as a Caminar Donor

Your support means so much to us. We understand that with new tax laws, donating can be a bit confusing. We wanted to introduce a new way for you to continue supporting our mission.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) have become one of the fastest-growing philanthropic tools in recent years for good reason. They offer donors a flexible, tax-efficient way to support the causes they care about most, including nonprofits like Caminar.

A DAF is essentially a charitable investment account. You can contribute assets such as cash, stocks, cryptocurrency or other investments to the fund, receive an immediate tax deduction while also avoiding capital gains tax. Assets that might otherwise be a tax liability become a double advantage: You receive full deduction on their value, with no capital gains taken.

For a more comprehensive guide, please check it out here.

Impact!

We are pleased to share our Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Impact Report. Thank you for joining Caminar’s mission to build strength and stability through comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment delivered through evidence-based, whole-person care. You are helping to build thriving lives and supportive, uplifting communities!
