Overview

Bringing Families Home (BFH) is an innovative program that provides housing-first services, including rapid rehousing, to families experiencing homelessness when Child Protective Services are involved. As a contractor of Contra Costa County’s Health, Housing and Homelessness (H3) Program, Caminar works in partnership with Contra Costa County’s Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) and provides two categories of assistance to families who are part of BFH:

  • Homelessness prevention, direct financial assistance, and case management/housing navigation services, which can include paying past-due rent, a utility bill, etc., to maintain them in their current home, and whenever possible, preserve a stable home so that the children are not at risk of going into foster care.
  • Mid-term (a period of 6-24 months) rapid rehousing rental assistance and case management/housing navigation services to assist them in obtaining housing, leading to permanent housing - with the goal of housing stability to prevent the children from entering the foster care system.
